Welcome to the MSDict dictionaries!

Please note that if you are using an unregistered version of the software, you will be able to access only words staring with the letter "A".

Wireless and Offline version

Depending on the phone model and the available phone memory and resources, MSDict can be used in offline mode, when the whole dictionary is saved onto the phone memory or memory card, or wirelessly, when only small parts of the dictionary are saved locally and words are acquired dynamically through Internet connection.

When you start MSDict for the first time the program will search your phone for available memory cards and pre-installed dictionary data .pdb files. If the MSDict directory with at least one .pdb dictionary file is not found in the root directory of the available memory card(s), you will be asked to select the preferred dictionary data location. In this case make sure that you select a memory card with enough free space. Please note that on some phones the Java internal memory is with limited capacity for external applications and will not allow you to download the complete dictionary and work in offline mode.

To install the dictionary data .pdb files and work fully in offline mode, create a directory named MSDict in the root of the preferred memory card and copy the .pdb files there. Follow the instructions from the user's manual of your phone for information how to transfer files and create directories. If you have installed the program directly from the Internet and you don't have the .pdb files, you can go to www.mobisystems.com site and download the .pdb files for the desired dictionaries.

To disable the warning messages for network and memory card access, configure the application settings for "Internet access" and "read/write of user data" to <Never ask>. For example, on Nokia phones this can be done by navigating to the program, selecting Options> Application access menu and then 'Network Access', 'Read user data' and 'Add and edit data' menus.

When you start using your dictionary for the first time, a small part of it will be downloaded and you will be asked if you want to download the full dictionary and work in offline mode. You can skip this step and continue in wireless mode.
In case you select to remain in wireless mode, you can still download the whole dictionary and switch to offline mode by selecting <Menu> and then <Offline Mode>.
When working in wireless mode MSDict will periodically download parts of the dictionary that you use. While accessing online data the software will indicate this with a screen showing "Downloading...". You are allowed to stop the download by pressing the <Cancel> button.
Please note that to be able to use the dictionary in wireless mode, connecting to the Internet should be enabled and configured on your phone.
